Employment projects for hard-to-employ population categories
The Inclusion Initiative was launched in mid-2017 when the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) and the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities began the project-related collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, the National Employment Service, the Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit and the Commissariat for Refugees and Migrations of the Republic of Serbia.

“Meet, Do Not Judge” campaign started! Anti-discrimination laws are in place and their implementation is pending
Serbia has the necessary legal base and mechanisms to combat discrimination against Roma that is unfortunately, being insufficiently and improperly implemented. The main prerequisite for improving the position of Roma is combating stereotypes and prejudices that remain ingrained in all pores of the society and henceforth limit access to education, health and social protection system, employment and housing – the conclusion reached during the panel discussion held today in Niš at “Deli” Coworking space.

Growing awareness on unacceptability of discrimination in Serbia
Two thirds of citizens (69%) believe the level of discrimination in Serbia is significant, whereas 50% believe Roma are the ones most exposed to discrimination, followed by women (33%), LGBT population (33%), persons with intellectual disabilities and mental disorders (33%) and the poor (31%) – as illustrated by results of the Citizens’ Attitudes on Discrimination in Serbia.

New measures for social inclusion of Roma
The official signing of the Cooperation Agreement with pilot towns and municipalities within the framework of the German Development Cooperation project “Inclusion of Roma and other marginalised groups in Serbia”, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), took place at the MP’s Club. Towns and municipalities across Serbia, namely - Aleksinac, Vranje, Vršac, Kragujevac, Kruševac, Pirot, Požarevac and Subotica, took part in the signing of the Cooperation Agreement, while the programme itself is currently being implemented in city municipalities of Zvezdara and New Belgrade.

New employment opportunities for Roma youth after completing skills training
Novi Sad, 17 October 2019 – At the ceremony held in Novi Sad, after completing training courses organised by the Educational Centre for Vocational and Work Skills Training, 63 participants received certificates on successfully completed training and are now ready to seize their opportunities in the labour market. The young unemployed Roma have been trained in this state accredited institution in occupations such as hairdressers, pedicurists, manicurists, construction machinery operators, bakers and accountants.
