Under the German Development Cooperation project “Inclusion of Roma and other marginalised groups in Serbia”, the town of Požarevac is implementing measures “Achieving inclusive socio-economic development through the promotion of Roma entrepreneurship and employment.” The partner organisation joining forces in said activities is the Roma Association of the Braničevo District from Požarevac.

The activities have started on 1 October 2019 and will continue until the end of 2020, with the planned value of activities implemented under “Achieving inclusive socio-economic development through the promotion of Roma entrepreneurship and employment” amounting to EUR 150,000.

The main objective is to generate a positive impact on the local community and Roma entrepreneurship through employment of Roma returnees who have returned under the Readmission Agreement, and of persons with disabilities, rural youth, persons outside the labour market and persons from socially disadvantaged and vulnerable groups.

“We would like to take advantage of this opportunity and remind you that two public calls were made under this project for selecting and awarding subsidies to entrepreneurs, and micro and small businesses, with one call for the unemployed for awarding self-employment subsidies. Both calls were announced on 28 January 2020 and were open until 18 February 2020.

“We encourage all interested businessmen and unemployed persons to apply for mentioned subsidies. Our Project team members are available for assistance in doing so. Assistance is also available from employees working at the Roma Association of the Braničevo District, as well as in the premises of the Kostolac municipality and Kostolac Roma Affairs offices. The terms and the amounts of funds allocated are openly expressed in public calls, however it doesn’t hurt to add that the those funds are intended for procurement of equipment/machinery for at least 10 legal entities in individual amounts of EUR 5000, while the funds for business start-up are intended for purchasing equipment/machinery as specified under business plans of at least 10 natural persons in individual amounts of EUR 6000”, said Danijela Tufegdžić, Project Team member and Advisor at the Department for Local Economic Development, Agriculture and Environmental Protection at the Požarevac Town Administration.

The project “Inclusion of Roma and other marginalised groups in Serbia” is being implemented within the framework of German Development Cooperation. It is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), in cooperation with the Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia as Chairperson of the Coordination Body for Monitoring the Implementation of the Strategy for Social Inclusion of Roma in the Republic of Serbia for the period 2016 – 2025.
