The grand opening of the beauty salon from our beneficiaries was held
The Office for Roma Inclusion of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and the Association of Roma Students organized the grand opening of the "Wonderland" beauty salon owned by three Roma women, beneficiaries of various support programs aimed at employing Roma men and women in Serbia. The event was held in their newly opened salon at Cara Dušana 19, in Novi Sad, on 17th December 2021.
Kristina Plavci, Nurhana Toplica and Alisa Đurić are beneficiaries of the project "Start the engine - increase the employability of Roma in Serbia", which is implemented by the Association of Roma Students with the support of the German Development Cooperation Programme "Inclusion of Roma and Other Marginalized Groups in Serbia".
Kristina, Nurhana and Alisa, who opened the salon with restrained forces, attended beauty care training at the Educational Center for Professional and Work Skills in Novi Sad, as well as internships in hairdressing salons after completing professional training. With the help of the Roma Students' Association, three of them applied for grants to start a business with the German organization HELP, which implements the project "Migration Management and Support for the Return of Asylum Seekers III" under the "Migration for Development" Programme.
For the opening of the beauty salon, they also received the support of the ADRA organization for the procurement of raw materials and the fiscal cash register, and the Association of Roma Students allocated funds from its own budget to pay space rent and marketing costs for the salon.
The beauty salon is a great example of how, with good cooperation and coordination of existing services to encourage entrepreneurship and continuous support to beneficiaries, where successful entrepreneurial ventures can be realized by the most vulnerable members of the Roma community.
